Summer reading is coming to an end. We’ve dug reading all summer and now it’s time to break out some new displays. A back-to-school display will be going up over the circulation desk, a local quilter’s guild will be filling the entry display, and we needed to replace the historical fiction display in adults. So, I put my thinking cap on and came up with this:
It’s a Syfy display with ray guns shooting red and green yarn across the display and a sign with a spaceship on it that says “Experience a Flight of Fantasy.” For some reason, patrons seem to love getting books out of displays that have a token of resistance to them. For instance, when I created a display of western books and covered part of the display with cardboard barroom doors, the books behind the doors were always the ones checked out. When I put caution tape up over a banned books display, we had a hard time keeping books in it. We’ll see how they feel about death rays!
