Five Red Dragons

Red Dragons

To celebrate Chinese New Year, I’m doing a storytime and needed some flannels and props to add to the fun.  I took the idea for Five Red Dragons from Storytime with Miss Mollie.  She did four red dragons, but noted that it started out as five.  I threw the extra one in.  She got the idea from Perpetual Preschool where they started as green dragons.  I just love how flannels evolve to meet the needs of the audience!  I found a Chinese dragon drawing that I liked and simplified it.  They were cut out by some fantastic co-workers of mine and then I glued them to black flannel so they would show up against my flannel board’s red backing.  Next, they were decorated with a judicious use of gold glitter glue and wiggle eyes.  The rhyme is:
Five Red Dragons

Five red dragons
Making such a roar
One danced away
And then there were four.

Four red dragons
Dancing ’round a tree
One danced away
And then there were three

Three red dragons
Dancing ’round you
One danced away
And then there were two

Two red dragons
Dancing in the sun
One danced away
And then there was one

One red dragon
Having lots of fun
She danced away
And then there were none
